INFORMATIVE NOTE
A tele­pho­ne infor­ma­tion cen­tre is also ope­ra­ting within the admi­ni­stra­ti­ve and orga­ni­sa­tio­nal struc­tu­re of the Depart­ment of Tou­ri­sm Poli­ce of Athens, under call num­ber “1571”.
It pro­vi­des infor­ma­tion in English, French, Ita­lian and Spa­nish, as well as in all other lan­gua­ges, sin­ce the cal­ler can be put throu­gh to the cor­re­spon­ding Embas­sy or tou­ri­sm enter­pri­ses or gui­des or the forei­gn lan­gua­ge depart­ment of the Mini­stry of Forei­gn Affairs; the ope­ra­tor is infor­med by the inter­pre­ter and then pro­vi­des the rele­vant information.
By way of exam­ple, the ser­vi­ces pro­vi­ded by “1571” include:
• Pro­mo­tion of all forms of tou­ri­sm in our coun­try (con­fe­ren­ce, agro-tou­ri­sm, sports, sea, therapeutic/medicinal, eco­tou­ri­sm etc.) by pro­vi­ding all types of infor­ma­tion rela­ting to the tra­vel and stay of tou­rists in our coun­try (hotels and other types of accom­mo­da­tion, trans­por­ta­tion, sights, archaeo­lo­gi­cal sites, museums, bea­ches, ski cen­tres, tou­ri­st agen­cies, car ren­tals, recrea­tion etc.);
• Pro­vi­sion of gene­ral infor­ma­tion, such as radio taxis and taxi fares, phar­ma­cies open all night, hospi­tals, gas sta­tions, small and lar­ge traf­fic ring, boat sche­du­les and trans­por­ta­tion in gene­ral, forei­gn exchan­ge etc.;
• Pro­vi­sion of instruc­tions or solu­tions to various com­plain­ts or pro­blems faced both by forei­gn and dome­stic tou­rists, usual­ly rela­ting to poor pro­vi­sion of ser­vi­ces or inap­pro­pria­te con­duct of employees of tou­ri­sm enter­pri­ses, vio­la­tion of agreed pri­ce, refu­sal to book a room, loss of items from hotel rooms etc.;
• Ser­vi­ce and pro­mo­tion of the Natio­nal Greek Tou­ri­sm Orga­ni­sa­tion (social tou­ri­sm, festi­vals etc.);
• Pro­mo­tion of the tasks of poli­ce agen­cies and other public agen­cies, orga­ni­sa­tions and bodies (port and fire-fighting agen­cies, heal­th­ca­re ser­vi­ces, local autho­ri­ties, Hotel Cham­ber of Gree­ce, Asso­cia­tion of Hotel Owners of Athens-Atti­ca, O.S.E., O.A.S. etc.);
• Tran­smis­sion of com­plain­ts or infor­ma­tion on nar­co­tics, wan­ted per­sons etc. to the com­pe­tent Secu­ri­ty Agen­cies, which take over the cases;
• Pro­vi­sion of legal infor­ma­tion on tou­ri­sm legi­sla­tion or gene­ral matters.
